What happened when we paid people to test their favourite drinks

It’s something most of us enjoy doing – whether you like the odd tipple on the weekend, or you’re never without a hot cuppa in your hand, most of us love to drink. So we decided to look back at paid product research we’ve had in the past that involved people testing their favourite beverages, while giving their thoughts on some well-known brands. Cheers to that!

🍺 Beer drinkers

We were recently on the hunt for some “crafty” participants who enjoy drinking all sorts of different beers. We had a brilliant response from you all, and chose people from Edinburgh, Leeds and London to give their feedback to our client. We spoke to Sandra from Edinburgh, who was lucky enough to take part in this opportunity and get paid for her time. She says:

“It’s good to talk about a topic I know a lot about! The research involved looking at pictures of various bottles of beers and giving my impressions of each of them, like where I thought they might come from, what I thought of the branding, and if I liked the taste.”

Companies are always really grateful to have feedback like this on their brand to understand how they can improve, and make any changes needed to be more in line with their brand message. Sandra says:

“The session was really interesting and the researcher [who lead the session] was very chatty and easy going. I think market research is a fab way to get real insight into a product before launching it and it’s nice to know our opinions are valued.”

This isn’t the only time we’ve searched for beer lovers either, so keep an eye out for future product testing opportunities, if you fancy having a pint (or two) on us.

☕ Tea sippers

If beer just isn’t your “cup of tea”, perhaps this one would’ve been more up your street. We paid people to become a tea tester for an hour and give their feedback to a well-known client. The session involved wearing a high-tech eye-tracking gadget, to see how much your pupils dilated when you tasted each cup. How futuristic!

It’s still not completely known why our pupils open up when we feel certain emotions, but it has become a recognised method of research to understand people’s true feelings towards topics, without even needing to say a word. It was a unique opportunity for participants to be involved in, and get paid for drinking their favourite hot beverage.

🍷 Wine connoisseurs

Think you know your wine? Maybe you’d have been a great fit for one of our previous focus groups on the subject. You didn’t need to be a real connoisseur at all, so anyone could take part in this one – you just needed to like wine!

The focus group discussed different people’s lifestyles, and tried to understand more about how their health habits influenced their wine drinking habits.

Don’t worry if you like the sound of these product testing sessions above and think you’ve missed out – we have regular sessions that focus on food and drink, whether it’s talking about takeaways, your grocery shopping, or product testing your favourite drinks.

What beverage would you like to test out and give your feedback on? Make sure you’re signed up with us, so you don’t miss out on new paid opportunities like these this year.
