Here’s what happened when we had a paid children’s party

Keeping the kids entertained all day isn’t an easy task and earning extra money as a full-time stay-at-home parent might sometimes seem like an impossible task. That’s why we thought we’d share Suzanne’s recent experience of taking part in paid research with us, as she managed to do both very successfully – it was not only possible, but a great way to spend the day with her children and get them involved in an exciting opportunity.

The paid session involved bringing the kids along to a children’s party arranged by our client, who are a well-known name in the music industry, and taking part in some fun tasks. The children’s opinion was the focus of this session, as they’ll be the end users of the product they were testing, and the parents were able to just relax nearby.

Get involved

First and foremost, make sure you’re signed up to our paid research community to hear about fun sessions like this in your area. If you fit the demographic for the study, we’ll send you an email inviting you to apply. Suzanne was lucky enough to see one of our Facebook posts, as she hadn’t heard about People for Research before this.

“This is all new to me! I replied to something on Facebook on a whim and didn’t really expect to follow through with it," she said.

What happens once you apply?

It can be a bit daunting, applying to take part in a paid session like this and bringing the kids along. There’s even more to think about than just applying on behalf of yourself – how will the kids behave? Will they feel comfortable taking to a researcher? How will we get there?

Any questions you may have can be answered by our team: they’ll run through all the need-to-know details of the session on the phone with you and make sure you’re 100% happy with everything before the day. Suzanne told us:

“I have to say, if it was not for your friendly and warm nature, and my questions being fully answered, I would never have even considered taking the kids there – but due to your confidence and how steadfast you were about it, I was happy to take them. It was a wonderful experience all around.”

What will happen during the session?

Each session will be slightly different, but you will be told exactly what to expect during the session by our team when they give you a call to get booked in. Suzanne was new to paid research, but the opportunity stood out to her because it was a topic that her children love, regardless of any payment being involved. That was just an added bonus!

“We have never done anything like this and my kids were only delighted to talk about something they are passionate about – music!”

When we conduct research sessions involving children under 16, we’ll always ask for the parent to come along and attend with their child. You won’t necessarily even need to contribute yourself – if the session is focused on your child’s opinion, like Suzanne’s was, the researcher is likely to talk straight to them. For this reason, it’s important that you think your child will be happy interacting with people other than yourself.

“I made sure to give the kids space to answer the questions, but I was always watching.”

Don’t worry about what the kids will say or how they will interact, as long as they’re comfortable that’s the most important thing! Our clients do also understand what it’s like working with young children and can accommodate that during the session.

“The people who were asking questions, and specifically the gentleman escorting my kids from table to table, were nothing but amazing. They were friendly, while still being professional, caring and attentive to their job.”

It’s music to our ears that Suzanne and her children had a fun experience. Hopefully this will be the first of many paid opportunities with us! If you like the sound of getting paid to attend fun events, workshops, or take part in product testing, make sure you join our community to hear about opportunities that suit you.
