Testimonial: how Michelle found her first remote session

Arguably the easiest way to make money through paid research is by taking part in a remote research session or task with us; you won’t even need to change out of your pyjamas! Remote research can literally happen all over the world without requiring the participant to even leave their house, so as long as you have an internet or phone connection (depending on the type of session), you can take part.
Remote research can vary in exactly what it is and how you complete it, but it will usually fit within one of the below types of testing:
1. Online task (e.g. navigating a website and sharing feedback)
2. Survey
3. Videocall (e.g. discussion via Skype or GoToMeeting)
4. Telephone interview
Michelle from Derby recently got involved in a remote research session with us, all about exploring the great outdoors. We were specifically looking for parents to get involved who enjoy going on adventures with their children and Michelle ticked all the boxes! We caught up with her to see how she got on, and how she found her very first remote research session. Here’s what she had to say.
What made you apply for this research opportunity?
Michelle was clearly a perfect fit for this outdoorsy research, as she applied for the research after she’d just been out on a walk in the middle of nowhere! She says that she saw our email about ‘explorer families’ and thought she’d be a relevant fit. After applying to take part, we got in touch and booked her in for the session.
Familiar with the term ‘remote research’?
Fortunately, Michelle was well-aware of the term remote research, since her job as a webinar trainer involves remote working. She added that the PFR website makes it clear what is asked of people before applying for the session, so she knew what she was getting involved with before submitting her application.
She also loved that one of our project managers rang her before the session to check if she had any last minute questions. According to Michelle, it’s "nice to hear a friendly voice" reassuring you before doing something new!
Michelle’s experience with the software
Using unfamiliar software can be a little daunting, but we’ll always guide you through any steps you need to take before the session, and our clients can give you extra help during if needed.
Michelle started her session initially on her tablet, and then moved over to her smartphone, which she was more comfortable with. We always check your ability with technology before the session, as sometimes we’re looking for those considered low-techies, while other times we need someone who is more tech-savvy.
Don’t worry if you feel confused during the session; you might have just found an area for improvement, which is what paid research is all about!
How did Michelle feel during the session?
She was very comfortable throughout the session and the client running the session was ‘lovely and really helpful’ throughout, which made Michelle feel at ease and made it easier for her to share her feedback without feeling rushed.
Sounds very appealing, doesn’t it? Being paid to give your feedback, from the comfort of your own home, maybe even in your pyjamas (although that part is optional!). A simple way to make some extra money, while giving your opinion on some interesting topics or the overall user experience.
